A Heritage of

Our approach to sustainability

"What a pleasure to climb a fine route and find no traces of those who have come before and to leave no mark one's passage... To use art instead of force."

- Royal Robbins

Purpose built and built to last

Ethical Production

Do the right thing

Let's face it, we work in a dirty industry. But we are ready for the good fight and we are committed to utilizing the most ethical means of production as possible. We value our strategic production partners and work closely with them in every step of our production process. It takes more time, but just as Royal himself always looked to do things the right way, we think it's worth every minute.

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition is the apparel, footwear, and textile industry’s leading alliance for sustainable production. Developing standardized supply chain measurement tools for all industry participants to understand the environmental and social and labor impacts across the value chain.

A suite of tools that enables brands, retailers, and facilities of all sizes — at every stage in their sustainability journey — to accurately measure and score a company or product's sustainability performance.

Since 1999, FLA has helped improve the lives of millions of workers around the world. As a collaborative effort of socially responsible companies, colleges and universities, and civil society organizations, FLA creates lasting solutions to abusive labor practices by offering tools and resources to companies.

Our long-term goal is to reduce our environmental impact. As company with both global manufacturing and sales, we have a great responsibility for our greenhouse gas emissions.

Code of Conduct

We have a clear vision of how we want to work from an ethical, social and environmental perspective.

The outdoors has always been at the forefront of our brand's greatest source of inspiration. It is also from there that we collect our materials and where the effects of consumption are most evident.

Therefore, we are very careful in what goes into our products. When we choose a material, we evaluate its effectiveness, functional properties, chemical composition and how much is needed. To help us make decisions, we use the Preferred Materials and Fibers List which ranks the materials according to their environmental impact. This list is continuously updated, as the state of knowledge changes and new materials are developed.

Restricted Chemicals

Royal Robbins' guidelines for chemicals helps us avoid toxic and forbidden chemicals.

We revise and update the list as new information is added. This is done in collaboration with the Chemicals Group, which we are a part of, and with support from the research institute Swerea. This keeps us informed about the research situation and the prevailing legal provisions and chemical information.

Doing things the right way and honoring and protecting the outdoor environment where he thrived, remains at the heart of a worldwide business that still follows his vision. Whether it was pioneering the clean climbing movement or preserving wild places, these are the values that remain core to our existence, We now partner with a number of outside groups to help us remain at the core of our existence.
