Back when Liz and Royal Robbins explored Yosemite's big walls, a sweater layer for warmth was a common essential. We've built sweaters for over 55 years – providing generations a lifetime of adventure.

Every Royal Robbins sweater is made with merino wool, with the vast majority containing 100% Merino Wool. This wool (surprise!) comes from merino sheep and is superior in every respect to standard wool. Forget the itch, feeling hot, or slightly damp. Merino wool is one of THE best performance fibers you'll find for adventure.

WHY MERINO WOOL?

NATURAL

We strive to use natural materials throughout our product line. Merino wool is one of the finest natural fibers available - figuratively and literally!

SOFT

A common association with wool is itch. Not so with merino. With a micron count (diameter) well below standard wool, these fibers are incredibly soft.

MOISTURE WICKING

When you start to sweat, merino is superior at wicking - meaning that moisture is pulled away from your skin and evaporates long before you feel damp.

ODOR RESISTANT

The best adventures don't involve regular trips to the laundry. Merino wool is great at absorbing odor, keeping the stink at bay for days without washing.

DURABLE

A Royal Robbins sweater will last for years, thanks to the durable physical properties of merino wool fiber.

THE ITCH MYTH BUSTED

There is a long association with wool garments being itchy and uncomfortable. Our 100% merino wool sweaters are made with 19.5 micron fine merino wool. What’s a micron? It’s all about diameter – the lower the number, the finer the diameter. Because merino wool has a smaller diameter than standard wool, it’s smoother – which means soft and no itch.
